Websites with lots of content (especially text content) usually rank well in the Search Engine Results Pages, or SERPs. Content should ideally be between 200 and 800 words per page to be well positioned for search engines. While more words may not seem as valuable for users, they are critical for search engines seeking content. The integration of additional content (with page-specific keywords) in certain areas can help ranking in the major search engines. Naturally including page-specific keywords throughout the text content can increase relevance greatly.
Note: If you are even mildly interested in SEO software, the best keyword research tool that I've ever used or reviewed is called Market Samurai. Read more about it on the SEO Resources page.
