SEO FAQ: Original Content

It can be time consuming and challenging to write original text content for your site, but it is not a good idea to find relevant content on the web and copy it to use on your own site. This is known as “scraping” content and it’s not helpful and can get a website banned from the search results. Content should be unique and interesting, factual, educational, entertaining, enlightening and inspiring, or controversial and fresh.

Find out what people in your industry are looking for online and provide it. Invite an industry expert to contribute an article or review that can be included on your site, or you can hire a copy writer.

I have been told that I should have multiple websites and that they all can be the exact same. I just need to have different URL’s. Is this true? Or am I going to get into trouble with the search engines?

This information from your guide as well as all of the other information makes me wonder about some of the advice I have been receiving from some of the other, “So called Experts”. Thanks for spending the time to compile all of this information.

Hello!

As I say in my guide as well as the FAQ, duplicate content is NEVER a good thing. You can have multiple domains (URLs) but only if you have one "main" one and the others are being forwarded to it via a 301 redirect.

In a nutshell, never, ever copy content, even your own. If you're going to have separate websites, make sure there is a good reason (like it's an entirely different company, subject, or context).

I'd be interested to find out where you heard that building multiple sites with the same content would be ok... very strange!

I hope that answers your question! Thanks!
