SEO FAQ: Importance

SEO "importance" is an extremely potent factor in your search engine rankings. A huge factor of the ranking of your website is based on how important your website is. How relevant is the information on your website, and how many connections, or other sites linking to it does it have? And of those connections, which are honest, useful, and of high quality? The more of a resource your website is, the more useful it is. The more useful it is, the more connections it will naturally generate and other websites will start linking back to yours. The more that all of this happens, the more "important" your website will be viewed by the search engines.

My question is on Importance. I have heard that buying your domain name for two years is better than just buying for one year, is this true?

Hi Mike, thanks for the compliments. :)

To answer your question, it IS better to purchase a domain as far into the future as possible. The search engines like to see permanence - they like to see that you plan on sticking around. It's yet another way for them to see your website as reputable and worthy of not only indexing, but being well-placed in results pages.

It is also a good idea to have a domain that is as old as possible. I talk about "domain age" in greater detail on another section of this FAQ. Check it out using the green menu to the right. :)
