SEO FAQ: Broken Links

When building a website, carefully plan out the navigation and how content will be purposefully integrated and cross referenced. Be cautious not to create broken links, which generate “Page Not Found” error messages, which are a problem for search engines. When a site is redesigned and pages are renamed or moved around in the site structure, this can result in these errors. Check all links to make sure they are accurate and formatted correctly.

Can I produce a page not found or do I need to contact a Web Designer to do this?

Honestly Nick, you don't want people to be at a "page not found" page. However, I think I know what you're asking.

Many websites have custom "page not found" pages so that it doesn't look like a browser error or that they've left the website. Another word for this would be a custom 404 page (404 Not Found). People get really creative with their 404 pages sometimes, which is pretty interesting to see.

Any web developer worthy of your time should be able to do this for you.

Thanks for the question!
