SEO FAQ: Breadcrumb Navigation

Very useful to human visitors, Breadcrumb Navigations are a text-based “path” that basically says, “you are here”. These links are also another text-based way that the search engines can navigate the site’s content. The "active page" (the page you are on) usually has a differently colored button or text, which signifies which page the user is on.

Breadcrumb Navigations are usually only used for larger websites that have sub pages. Normally, websites do just fine with a single main navigation.

Hi Mary!

Like I've stated above and in my guide, a breadcrumb navigation is really just a navigation that says, "you are here". This is especially useful with larger websites that have many pages with subpages, etc. For instance, if you have a page titled, "Artwork" and it has subpages named "Contemporary", "Modern", "Abstract", "Cartoon", etc - you might want a separate navigation on those subpages to show what page you are on specifically, and also that the parent page is still "Artwork".

Rollover buttons are just a way to display any navigation. Usually it is only used for the main navigation, not breadcrumb or footer navigations.

Hope that helps! Thanks
