SEO FAQ: Blogging

Blogs are what I like to call "search engine crack". In the last few years, search engines seem to bend over backwards for blog owners. Search engines will rank popular blogs with rich, usable and helpful content above higher content websites. Search engines index blogs much more often than other pages, simply because search engines know that blogs are updated much more frequently.

The more often you post blogs, the more often your website is indexed. The more often your website is indexed, the better. The more popular your blog, the more popular your website. The more popular your website, the better the page ranking, and so on. As you can probably tell, it's a really good idea to start blogging.

I've found a lot of incredible information on your website. I feel like I can start making my website and blog work for me.

I have an older website and I have a Blog. They are not connected. Is there anything that I can do? Do I need to look for a company that can combine them?

Hi Michael, and thanks!

You should really combine your blog and your website so they are hosted on the same domain. Many web companies can do this for you, so it shouldn't be too hard a service to find.

While your at it, find a good content management system for your website, such as the one provided by Arora Designs (www.aroradesigns.com) which allows you to have a blog, make your own 301 redirects, etc.

Hope that helps!

I was recently told and would like to verify this but if I list my blogs on my site and 10 feeder site will this hurt my SEO Ranking.

If the process is simply copying all text from your blog posts and pasting them on these other sites, then yes, it would be considered duplicate text and you can get in a bit of trouble for that. It basically makes your content less original and "worth" less in the eyes of search engines. If you manually make different summaries for each article that are not word for word (and in fact use different words) and then link to the full article, you should be good to go.

Please let me know if I understood your question and if my answer was helpful to you. Thanks for the post!
